Premier Pigments Applauds FDA and CDC Findings

Permanent Cosmetic leader and CEO of Premier Pigments, Sandi Hammons, applauded the Food and Drug Administration and Center for Disease Control for the results of their study of allergic reactions to permanent makeup.

“We are very pleased,” said Sandi Hammons, company founder and CEO of Premier Pigments. “The report confirms the rarity of allergic reactions to permanent pigments and clears our Original color line.”

Arlington, TX -- September 26, 2006 --
Premier Pigments is the industry leader and pioneer of organic permanent colors. The company has a reputation for providing predictable, long lasting permanent makeup. “Intradermal cosmetic technicians love our colors,” said J’Anna McMellon, lead of Premier Pigment’s customer support division. “They love them because they really are permanent; and unlike so many others, they are predictable and they last.”

Premier Pigments also leads research of permanent cosmetic pigments. In 2005, the company announced its offer to arrange medical care and support for anyone who has an allergic reaction to permanent cosmetics or tattoo pigments. The unprecedented offer covered not only their clients, but also the customers of certified technicians who use other pigment suppliers.

“We wanted to provide support for anyone allergic to permanent pigments. We wanted to study allergic reactions to all pigments. And we wanted to support the permanent cosmetic and tattoo industries.”

The company celebrated the findings of the FDA and the CDC study following an investigation related to Premier’s voluntary recall and complete market withdrawal of their True Color line in 2003. The Center for Disease Control collected reports from telephone interviews with technicians and their clients. The focus of the CDC study was on the health problems related to permanent makeup procedures following the recall.

“The FDA and CDC findings are great news for permanent cosmetics and for Premier Pigments,” said Hammons. “Allergic reactions to permanent cosmetics are very rare, and this study confirms just how rare they are (fewer than 10 reports not linked to the recalled pigments). The report stated there were four claims of reactions to Premier’s Original Color line. (The company is currently investigating the four reports.)

There are an estimated 8.4 million American women have received permanent makeup, 5 million of them are wearing Premier Pigments. FDA estimates 1 in 250,000 will be allergic to permanent pigments.

“We are very happy with the results,” asserted Hammons. “Considering the amount of media coverage the story generated, public confusion and competitor involvement in this matter, we are relieved and thrilled!”

Hammons is now pledging more research in an effort to prevent most, if not all, allergic reactions to permanent pigments. Allergic reactions to permanent makeup are very rare, but they can be serious. “We have learned a lot in the last three years. We certainly know a lot more about allergic reactions, their treatment and prevention. Our goal is to learn even more. My hope is that allergic reactions to permanent pigments can be a permanent part of our industry’s past.”

Story Notes --

The CDC study concluded:
• 74% of the 259 individuals reporting allergic reactions to the recalled True Colors had a history of allergies
• Fewer than ten reports of allergic reactions to permanent pigments were not linked to recalled True Colors.
• Most of the women who had allergic reactions to the
recalled colors had to seek medical treatment
• Healing was twice as slow in women who had a history
of allergies
